Notes: The Washington eagle quarter was not produced in 1933. The reverse image of the eagle was replaced with a Colonial drummer to celebrate the bicentennial in 1976-1977. Production was relatively high for most years, with D and S mintmarks less common than the no mintmark Philadelphia issues. All pre-1965 issues are much rarer, as many were hoarded or melted for their silver content, and are generally not found in circulation. The lines in Washington’s hair and the feather details on the eagle’s wings and breast distinguish superior coins. After 1998 the obverse of George Washington was revised and the reverse image began changing four times per year for the US State Quarters series.
